The confessional wasn’t designed for what happens after Father Scott closes the door and turns to young Bastion with an expression that has nothing to do with absolution. The clergy setting amplifies every transgression exponentially — each kiss is sacrilege, each touch a broken vow, each moan a prayer directed at the wrong deity. Father Scott’s collar stays on (it always does) as he guides Bastion through acts the seminary curriculum deliberately omitted. The young man’s conflicted expression — arousal battling conditioning — mirrors the priest’s own internal war between calling and desire. The sacred space transforms into something profane and beautiful as two men use religious architecture as the backdrop for sins that neither wants forgiven. Some favors can only be repaid in flesh.
